Celebrating its inaugural year, the Kew Gardens Festival of Cinema aims to promote and encourage independent filmmaking by creating a platform in Queens to introduce a local audience to independent cinema from around the world. The nonprofit organization’s 10-day festival features film screenings, Q&As, industry panels and a host of other activities surrounding the film industry. More than 100 short and feature-length films will be screened, including those in horror, comedy, sci-fi, animation, experimental and documentary. The festival will culminate in an awards ceremony; winners are chosen by a preselected jury panel.
