Marsden Hartley is known for his explorations of different locations, with prior exhibits focused on his German series, New Mexico recollections and Nova Scotia period. This exhibit is the first to explore his relationship with his home state, from Post-Impressionist inland landscapes to its coastal terrain and iconic Mount Katahdin. Hartley's work will be complemented by pieces from other artists who influenced his vision, including Paul Cézanne, Winslow Homer, and Japanese printmakers Utagawa Hiroshige and Katsushika Hokusai.
