Adding to Bushwick's cachet, Okiway offers Japanese-themed street food in a subtly stylish setting that's welcoming to young singles and chic newlyweds propelling strollers. Partners Vincent Minchelli and Amanda Jenkins were inspired by travels through Japan to put new spins on okonomiyaki, a fluffy, savory pancake. The Mexican version combines chorizo, avocado, cilantro and chipotle mayo. Another is filled with barbecued pulled pork while the "spicy Hiroshima" mingles smoky pork belly and tangled ramen noodles. Bar seating provides the entertainment of watching them being assembled, grilled and stunningly decorated with sauces and condiments. Other small plates worth sampling include wasabi guacamole with crisp gyoza chips and amberjack tartare with spicy Japanese mustard. And if you're going the spicy route, spring for a pitcher of cold Sapporo on draft.
