From the looks of the enchanting brownstones and tree-lined streets, you'd never know Boerum Hill was once a shady neighborhood. Young families and hipsters dominate the area now, giving rise to a number of charming, progressive restaurants, one of the best being Rucola. It's an all-day affair, serving fresh pastries and frittatas in the morning, hearty sandwiches (roast pork with taleggio and escarole) at lunch and a full menu of pastas, seafood and poultry at dinner. Northern Italy is the focus for the wine list and seasonal menu, which changes weekly. The farmhouse setting is adorable, with milk-bottle light fixtures overhead and bunches of flowers on the tables.
