The Good Fork

The stars aligned when a skilled, inventive chef, Sohui Kim, and a talented, resourceful carpenter, Ben Schneider, fell in love and got married. Together they created The Good Fork, a cherished restaurant in Red Hook whose reach extends far beyond its waterfront enclave. Schneider constructed a maritime space with personality: birdcages, vintage lamps, a lovely garden in back. Kim honors her Asian heritage with excellent pork and chive dumplings, Korean savory pancakes and Pekin duck breast. She does not neglect primordial American tastes, also offering roasted chicken and a juicy burger. At brunch, she branches out to New Orleans for shrimp and grits and to Mexico for terrific huevos rancheros and chilaquiles. The restaurant's name is fitting, a translation of the Italian phrase for "foodie": una buona forchetta.
