This welcoming, casual café has wooden tabletops, a 1960s-era den for lounging and shelves of pantry staples that evoke a Mediterranean grocery store. Walls are soothing green or exposed brick, the vibe so laid-back that when you're asked if you want a glass with your Brooklyn Lager, the only response is, "Nah." The falafel here is rapturous, the creamy hummus devoid of any chickpea wrinkles, the fattoush salad satisfying and crunchy, studded with Bulgarian feta cheese, roasted peppers and grilled pita. The owners, Sharon Hoota and Yigal Ashkenazi, are also behind Hummus Place and Nir Mesika, the chef, is Israeli-born and adept at re-creating cherished family recipes.
