Judging by their gallery-like space, the folks behind this store aren't interested in mass production or trendy styles. The designers for the Amsterdam-based Droog (a Dutch word meaning "dry" or "wry") build products around a concept—not the other way around—such as Studio Makkink & Bey's House of Blue, which contains a desk, a window, an alcove, even a fireplace, all created from Styrofoam. When an individual piece sells, Jurgen Bey will replace it with sustainable materials. The shop has featured tables by FormaFantasma that are more about art than surface area as well as lamps from Tejo Remy and Chris Kabel that find a healthy equilibrium between an idea and a light.
