This tour takes a two mile walk through Greenwich Village, visiting sites where influential people lived and important events took place. For more than 150 years the bohemian life style and free thinking gave way to changes that have made a lasting impact on American society. This is where the Stonewall in Riots took place and launched the LBGT movement, Eugene O'Neil produced his innovative plays and won four Pulitzer Prizes and Bob Dylan's wrote lyrics that perfectly captured the moment of his generation. These are only a few of many interesting and wacked out stories of success, failure, deviance and defiance in the Village. This tour will help us gain a deeper understanding as to why Greenwich Village was so important to America.

Every Saturday at 2pm

Greenwich Village was once the epicenter of counterculture and bohemia in America. For more than 150 years’ artist, writers, poets, musicians, free thinkers, playwrights, actors, socialist, the disenfranchised, those who were different and those who sought to be different have settled in the Village and rebelled against the norms of society. Along the way many changed the way America looks at itself.

These streets have stories…. many interesting stories. This tour re-counts the influence of Greenwich Village through the lives of individuals and events that made a lasting impact on society. Gertrude Vanderbilt, Bob Dylan, Edward Hopper, ee Cummings, John Reed, Eugene O’Neil, Stamford White and a host of other characters with wacky out stories, successes, tragedies, bouts of deviance, and lasting influence.

This tour begins at Sheridan Square (Stonewall National Monument - West 4th street and Washington Place) and ends at the Jefferson Market Library (6th Ave and West 10th). Please plan accordingly
